It is with great pleasure that we announce that Professor Lyn Beazley has graciously accepted the role of patron of the Foundation. As Chief Scientist since 2006, Professor Beazley has worked tirelessly to create and forge strong links between WA’s scientists, researchers and industry on a local, national and international level.

Her research career spans 30 years of studies into regeneration after neurotrauma and colour vision in Australian native animals, including lizards and marsupials. Her research has also changed clinical practice in the treatment of infants at risk of pre-term delivery.

She is a graduate of Oxford University and after doing her doctorate at Edinburgh University, moved to Perth in 1976. Her links with the Foundation date back to 1978 when she was awarded a Fellowship for her research on “Infant Visual Acuity”. In later years she also was awarded BrightSpark Fellowships for research on ”Development of Mammalian Visual Pathways” and “An Investigation of Axonal Sprouting in the Developing Mammalian Optic Nerve”.

As well as being Chief Scientist, Professor Beazley is a Professor of Biology at the University of Western Australia where she became renowned for her work as a neuroscientist.

As an alumni and a supervisor she is well placed to understand the challenges facing an emerging scientist in WA today and we can’t think of a better person to represent BrightSpark and the innovative young scientists we support.

We are honoured to have her on the team.
